A couple of years ago I wrote a book set in Istanbul called LESS THAN A SHADOW. It began with the murder of a well-known reporter. The investigation ramified in all directions until the whole country of Turkey became engulfed in its wake. It took no special knowledge to write about the killing of a journalist in Turkey--one of the most dangerous places on earth to be a reporter.
